For far more than a decade, Sumter County has been rapidly evolving into a unique blend of rural agricultural and urban retirement, bringing new places and many new faces to the area.

But, there have been a few constants as exemplified by some of Sumter’s elected county officials. While there are many who are becoming veterans on the various boards and commissions that oversee public business, research by the Times has found three elected officials with remarkable histories of service, even breaking local records for years of service.
