The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a Monday morning crash that killed one man and injured two others.
Investigators were still attempting to confirm the victim’s identity at press time.
According to an FHP report, it was just after 8 a.m. Monday when the driver of a 2008 Toyota Prius was travelling south on C.R. 475 at a high rate of speed and failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of S.R. 44.
The driver reportedly drove around a tractor-trailer that was stopped at the sign and headed into the intersection, where a Ford light-armored car carrier was traveling west on S.R. 44 in the inside lane. The front, right corner of the armored car struck the left side of the Prius, then both vehicles traveled off the north shoulder and caught fire. The driver of the Prius was not able to get out of the vehicle and died from his injuries at the crash, according to the report.
Jimmy Colon, the driver of the armored car, and his passenger Franklin Espinal received minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
