A Lake Panasoffkee man was robbed and shot in the face Thursday morning in Royal, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
It was just after midnight when authorities responded to a shooting/robbery call. When they arrived at C.R. 462 and C.R. 235, they found a 46-year-old man on the ground on the driver’s side of a white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck. The truck had a Domino’s pizza sign attached to it and the driver’s door was open, with the victim lying on his stomach, according to the sheriff’s report.
Authorities reported that the victim told them he was making a pizza delivery, but when he arrived at the location he was immediately met by two black males in their mid 20s. He described both suspects as being between five-feet, six inches and five-feet, eight-inches tall, slim built and wearing white T-shirts, with bandannas covering their faces. One of the suspects was armed with a black rifle.
When the victim refused, the suspect reportedly shot through the driver's side window, striking the victim in the face. The suspects then pulled the victim from the truck and took an undetermined amount of cash from his front pants pockets. They also took two pizzas and a two liter bottle of Sprite. The suspects were last seen running east bound from the scene, towards C.R. 235.
The victim was transported to Ocala Regional Hospital and was in stable condition.
