Raiders defense down Bulldogs 38-15

That South Sumter High defense had head coach Inman Sherman beaming Friday night at Raiders Field.
South Sumter High held Zephyrhills High to 133 yards total offense in handing the Bulldogs a 38-15 Class 5A-District 6 loss.
South Sumter is 4-0 and 1-0 in district play. Zephyrhills is now 3-1 and 0-1 in district play.
Zephyrhills managed 15 points but the defense made sure the Bulldogs really weren’t much of a threat to win after the first quarter.
“They made us work for it,” said Sherman. “Our defensive coaches came up with a great defensive scheme.”
Zephyrhills struck first on a 38-yard field goal by Zach Gleaton.
South Sumter struck back at 6:59. Cody Henderson caught a 46-yard pass from Levi Sapp.
South Sumter’s Wes Moir kicked a 27-yard field goal with five minutes left in the first quarter
South Sumter scored on Tafario McKrachon’s three-yard run with 1:54 left in the first quarter.
Zephyrhills’s Jordan Roberts returned the ensuing kickoff 82 yards at 1:41 in the first quarter. The PAT kick was blocked.
After that, it was the Raiders’ show.
Sapp hit Kelly Chase for a 14-yard TD pass just 47 seconds before halftime.
Raider running back Anderson Faulk ran 22 yards for a score with 10:32 left in the third period.
Faulk scored his second touchdown on a one-yard plunge with 9:09 left in the game.
The Bulldogs scored with 30 seconds left in the game. Ty Tanner threw a six yard pass to Devon Brockington. The PAT pass fell incomplete.
