Continental Country Club Golf Tournament Fundraiser
Each year an estimated 10,354 people in the Central Florida area will be diagnosed with cancer. This disease affects everyone in some way. The American Cancer Society is dedicated to saving lives through programs such as Relay for Life. Once again this year, Continental Country Club in Wildwood will be hosting the best golf tournament in the area to raise funds for Relay for Life.
The Pro Am event will be on Feb. 24 hosting pro golfers from all over the globe. On Feb. 25 and 26 you can play with the pros in the Wildwood Open. Last year 119 professional golfers attended and played in this event.

FRIDAY, FEB. 24
Bus trip to Sewing and Quilt Expo
Rosemary Sandefer of Grandma’s Crafts and Treasures is coordinating a charter bus to the Sewing and Quilt Expo in Lakeland. The 3-day Sewing Expo features classes, demonstrations, hands-on projects, vendors, and the latest products for quilting, sewing and crafting. The class catalog and other information on the show can be found on line at www.sewingexpo.com.
The cost for the bus trip is $30, which includes admission (worth $10), one class (worth $19) a tote bag, lapel pin and transportation to and from The Villages and Leesburg. Pickups will be made at Walmart on Hwy. 441 in The Villages at 7:30 a.m. and Palm Plaza in Leesburg at 8 a.m.

Rib Night
VFW announces Rib Night. Ribs smoked to perfection. Three rib dinner with cole slaw, green beans, or baked beans, Texas toast. Cost for this lavish feast is $8 American. Extra ribs can be purchased. SATURDAY, FEB. 25
Together we can knock out cancer
Join us at the Kenny Dixon Sports Complex in Bushnell for the First Annual Softball Tournament hosted by the Sumter County Relay for Life – SECO Energy Team. Entry Fee is $200 per team and must be paid in cash no later than Feb. 18. Entries limited to 10 teams. Must be 18 years or older to play.
• Prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Balls can be purchased at the field for $5. MONDAY, FEB. 27
School advisory meeting
Wildwood Elementary School Advisory Committee meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. at Wildwood Elementary School in Building 1 Room 009. Multiple topics concerning all school stakeholders will be discussed.

 

TUESDAY, FEB. 28
‘Seeds Of Hope’ Concert
Norb Zielinski and Stars of The Villages will present a “Seeds of Hope” concert at 7 p.m. at the United Church of Christ at The Villages, 12514 County Road 101, one mile north of County Road 466, on the left, in Oxford.
Featured entertainers are: Norb Zielinski, producer – director; Howard Westin – MC; Performers: Billie Thatcher, Dawn DeNome, Steve Camp, Betsy Star, R.J. (Bob) Dauhn, and Dawn Pendley.
The concert benefits the Wildwood Soup Kitchen and the Wildwood Food Pantry. Admission: Nonperishable food items and/or monetary donation. Everyone is welcome.

World Wide Airborne Club lunch/meeting
There will be lunch during the meeting at 1 p.m., Redsauce Restaurant, 1000 Canal Street in Lake Sumter Landing, The Villages, FL 32162 (across from RJ Gators) for the World Wide Airborne Club, whose membership is open to all qualified paratroopers/air assault personnel of all branches of service from all countries. We currently have paratroopers from Canada, England, Israel and Italy, as well as several U.S. branches of service.  We invite new members from Sumter, Marion, and Lake counties.  Wives, widows, children and significant others of qualified personnel are encouraged to attend, and are offered Associate Memberships. Please plan on attending.

The Friends of the Panasoffkee Community Library will have a book sale from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the recreation center, 1582 County Road 459. Only sale set in 2012, get all the books you want. For information call 793-2007.

Low Cost Vaccination Pet Clinic
The Annual Low Cost Vaccination Clinic is from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Animal Care Center of Wildwood (in the Wildwood Shopping Center on U.S. 301, near Sav-A-Lot). This saves pet owners from an additional office visit charge.
Rabies vaccinations are required under Florida law for all dogs and cats. Spring starts the spread of the deadly parvo virus and all dogs are at risk. Cats are at risk of contracting feline distemper and feline leukemia too. Call the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. at 352-793-9117 or the Animal Care Center of Wildwood at 352-748-6348 for more information. Prices are: rabies vaccination for dogs and cats $9, canine distemper/oarvo $11, canine bordetella $11, feline distemper $11, feline leukemia $16.
Proceeds benefit the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc. thanks to the generosity of Dr. Timothy Porter and the Animal Care Center of Wildwood. For everyone’s safety, please have all animals on leashes or in carriers. The line forms early so don’t be late

Art in the Park
Visit with Florida’s artisans as they showcase their talent. Photography, painting, and crafts will be among some of the creative arts showcased. Show takes place on April 21, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Show is free with park entrance fee of $3 per vehicle and $2 for walkers or bikers.
