Sumter nurse arrested for sex crimes

-A A +A

A nurse at a Sumter County medical facility was arrested Monday by Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) agents for human trafficking.
Donald Wayne Purviance, 46, of Orlando, was arrested for solicitation of a parent, human trafficking, soliciting the procurement of a minor for prostitution and attempted lewd and lascivious battery. He was placed in the Sumter County Detention Center without bond.
FDLE agents of the Miami Regional Operations Center Cyber/High-Tech Crimes squad arrested Purviance in the morning at his place of work, Promise Hospital of Florida, on County Road 472, in Oxford. He was taken into custody without incident.
Purviance was not a hospital employee, he was working as a contractual nurse, according to hospital personnel.
Following an anonymous tip, Purviance became the subject of an investigation last year when he lived in Biscayne Park in South Florida, according to a FDLE press release. In September 2012, he moved to Orlando and in February, he allegedly solicited an undercover agent he thought was the parent of a 14-year-old son.
Purviance offered to pay $750 in exchange for sex with the father and the son, according to the report.
FDLE agents believe there could be additional victims.
Anyone with information about possible crimes by Purviance can contact Special Agent Michelle Bufalino at 786-336-1000 or the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office at 793-2621.
