    Food giveaway

    A USDA food giveaway will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on the first and third Wednesday of every month. The distribution will be at the Lake Panasoffkee United Methodist Church ( Church of the Fishermen). 

    A limited number of packages are available on a first-come, first- serve basis. The church is located at 589 N C.R. 470 in Lake Panasofffkee. Please call 352-793-3438 for more information.

    Athletes and supporters will be ‘dye’ing to run on Saturday, March 18, at Lake Panasoffkee Elementary School.

    No, really, dyeing to run... or dyed as they run in the Dyeing to Run 5K. Hosted by the South Sumter High School National Honor Society, the color run is a fundraiser for SCARC,Inc. and involves runners being blasted with paint along the race course.

  • Get ready to sample Sumter

    Love to try something from a local restaurant, but not ready to commit to an entire meal?

    Then get ready for the sixth annual Taste of Simply Sumter, hosted by the Sumter County Chamber of Commerce. 

    Set for Thursday, Sept. 29, the sampling will be from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and while it’s not an entire meal, there’s certainly a variety on the menu.

    It’s a chance to mix, mingle and taste, all in one location, for $25 per person.

    The Sumter Community Action Partnership (C.A.P.) has been established.  Numerous community partners have met and planned local events to help "Put a Cap on Substance Abuse in Sumter County."

    The coalition partners represent important community organizations and institutions which include: parents, businesses, schools, youth organizations, law enforcement agencies, religious organizations, civic and volunteer groups, healthcare professionals and state, local governmental agencies.
