Oxford Assembly of God Associate Pastor Chuck Padgett (front) said he really wasn’t concerned about skydiving until the door to the plane was opened. “It was a little exciting… (I was) a little nervous. I was fine until I got up in the air and then he opened the door and I looked down and saw the ground. If I wouldn’t have been strapped to him I probably would not have jumped,” said Padgett with a laugh. He did the jump after children in the church raised more than $31,000 for missionary work. Skydiving for God?

Back when the children were at $26,000 of their $30,000 goal, their pastor didn’t think the dare they gave him sounded too bad. After all, Chuck Padgett had already slept on a billboard sign, camped out in front of a Walmart store for a week and taken the Polar Bear Plunge, all to raise money for missionary work – what’s a little skydive jump?
That’s what he was thinking weeks ago, when he first issued the challenge to bring in the extra $4,000. They brought in another $5,000, raising more than $31,000.
