  • Big change for Bushnell's Fall Festival

    The City of Bushnell will be celebrating its 31st Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 17, this year with a big change in store for patrons.
    The big news this year is that the festival is moving!
    Since the festival was first launch in the 1980s, it has always been held in the downtown area of the city along Bushnell Plaza and down the sides of the Historic Courthouse on E. McCollum Avenue.

  • Cops: Wigged gunman robs walkers

    Two friends out for an early morning stroll Monday  in Bushnell ended up victims of an armed robber wearing a wig as a disguise.
    The friends were walking about 4:20 a.m. near the intersection of W. Belt Avenue and N. Market Street, across the street from the CVS drug store, when they were confronted by the wigged robber, according to sheriff’s Capt. Kevin Hofecker.
    He approached the walkers from behind and said, “Let me have everything in your pocket,” according to Hofecker.

  • Raiders take season opener, on to Orlando

    “They’re a big, strong 8A school,” said South Sumter High School Raider Coach Inman Sherman of Orlando’s Freedom High School, the Raider’s next opponent this Friday night in the away game.

    Raider said Freedom is a strong passing team, but notes the Raider focus will be on working to correct some of their mistakes from last week’s season-opening game against Leesburg. Raider said he believes it’s good to reach out and player larger schools like Freedom as the Raiders hone their skills.

    David Edward Thornton, 42, Bushnell, arrested for possession of marijuana and drug equipment and dealing in stolen property.

    Recently the Florida Legislature defunded the AWD (Adults With Disabilities) grant for education. This affected 12,000 citizens with disabilities in Florida.
    Our agency (SCARC, Inc.), has now received funding from our gracious Sumter County Commission to continue our classes this year, while letters are written and phone calls are made that explain why we believe the defunding was a mistake.

    Sumter Swat 10U is looking for highly-motivated girls and parents to come and try out for 2015-2016 of year of travel ball. Organizers will be at the Kenny Dixon Sports Complex in Bushnell, at 6:15 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays.     As of 8 a.m. on Wednesday, Erika is a tropical storm with sustained winds of 40 mph. The storm is moving west at 18 mph and is currently located east of the Leeward Islands.  Tropical storm force winds extend over 100 miles from the storm’s center.  The NHC forecast model is projecting Erika to make landfall as a hurricane Monday morning in Florida.
